Senna, a friend and I restored an old datsun 280ZX back in 1999, and we used a stuff called owatrol oil to saturate all the rusted areas in the engine area and under the wings and around shock mounts. It gets in everywhere to halt the rust. Even after three years before he sold it on there was little or no trace of rust anywhere. We came across the owatrol in a boat shop in dalkey at the time. I havent seen it for sale in too many places but youll probaly trace it down quick enough the net somewhere. ive used it many times at home since on railings etc and its amazing stuff.

I used a German product called "Fertan" a couple of years ago and it worked very well.
I could not get it here in Ireland but I found a couple of marine / boat yard supplier's in the UK selling it which I thought was a good ad for the stuff.

I eventually bought it direct from Fertan in the uk (www.fertan.co.uk).

It will be well tested on my current project.

I actually used it mixed in with gloss paint for the window sills a few years back. :D

Seemed to last better, didn't flake like it did before.

Owatrol should be for sale in any good painting/decorating place. I've seen it in Johnstones, which have branches around the country.

I used loctite rust remedy a few times and always found it very good. Its great for panel seams that are just starting to go. Get at them with the wire wheel, ladle this stuff on and sand it back and paint it and you wont see the rust back for a long time. Vactan is another one I hear recommended but the loctite one is much more readily available.
