I've dropped my bass down to B but the strings seem too slack and I'm getting a horrible fret buzz
I know this can be solved by heavier gauge strings but which ones should I get
    I've got an Epi Goth T-bird 4

Buy a five string set, chuck the G string in a drawer.

I love BEAD, its the way my No.1 is set up! :)

Exactly, I was just gonna say this. I don't play BEAD though.

You'll need to widen the slots in the nut and set up your bass for the new strings as they'll be a much thicker gauge. :)

Oops, I forgot to mention that bit, I actually keep two nuts, one for EADG, and one for BEAD, with a quickloading bridge, you can be swapped in 15 mins, if need be.

You don't necessarily need a 5 string bass, just a bass with a 35" scale length as opposed to the 34"? of the Gibson.
Try heavier strings if you don't have the €€€ for a new bass. Try a 5 string set with a .130 E string, leave off the G string. You'll need to get the truss rod adjusted and bridge intonated & a new nut (sounds painful ), most guitar shops will do that, Musician Inc & Musicmaker maybe.

Slightly off topic I know, but what is the advantage or attraction of tuning BEAD ? I've been curious about this for some time.

The advantage of having the B without the thicker neck of a 5'er.

    pricing for those modifications?
cause i'd not risk the bass by doing it myself

Give Derrick Nelson a call. His number is in the resources sticky at the top of the forum. ;)
