As the above poster states, no you don't.

The need to have a phone line for Sky is a historical issue based on the subsidy British Interactive Broadcasting were offering when Sky Digital began - if you connected your phoneline to the box for twelve months, you got £200 off the price of the STB. This was to encourage take-up of interactive services. (It took some time for this subsidy to apply in Ireland, where the price of Sky Digital boxes was originally in the region of £450). Nowadays Sky subsidise the entire price of the STB. Even so, the condition to have the phone line connected still remains.

None of this is an issue with NTL, because there's no interactive services anyway. On a two-way cable network interactive services would be accessed via cable modem anyway.

You will need a phone and a few spare hours to try to contact their customer service.
