    can anyone recommend a good accounting software package?

    small business.. software and consultancy services

    vat ledger
    debtor & creditor ledger
    employee payroll
    expense account
    petty cash
    cheque payment ledger

    Have a look at MYOB, not sure if it has a payroll function, but you can download it and try before you buy

    lots of packages will work well including Sage instant, Tas books1, Quickbooks etc You will need a separate payroll as well though Sage Quickpay, theasaurus, Collsoft etc.

    I think the most important thing is to find either people local to you that will sell and support the product or the product your local business use, who can assist you if your stuck.

    The best product is useless to you if you can't use it.
