The combined mother 3 translation project have finally completed the full english translation of Mother 3. Mother 3 is the critically acclaimed sequel to SNES RPG classic Earthbound that found it's way to the states and gained itself lots of fans. Mother 3 was released on the GBA in japan and sold very well and garnered excellent review scores across the board. However with the GBA dying in the west nintendo never relased an english language version. I'm currently playing through earthbound and can't wait to give this a go.

I have to say fair play to the guys at the mother 3 translation site who did this out of nothing more than love of the series. A link to the site is below where you can download a patch for the mother 3 rom. Don't ask where you can get the rom from please.

The mother fans really are fanatical. that Starmen.net site is brilliant and the fans really do obsess about the games :)

They guys who did the translation seem like a really nice bunch. There was initially 2 transaltion teams but they decided that they would get the whole thing done quicker if they joined forces. It really does seem professionally done and the last few months have been the team stressing out of very small insignificant bugs that other teams wouldn't have bothered with and they also had a very extensive testing phase. If I get time tonight i'll sink an hour or two into earthbound, have a good reason to hurry up finishing it now.

I'd really like to see an expanded and fuller translation of Mother 1. I finished it recently and it very almost had a very emotional story that was let down by some clunky 8-bit standard translation. Lets hope they do a good job.

Started playing Mother 3 during the weekend and I am loving it.. Thanks Retrogamer for telling me about it.
The translation is brilliant and must have taken them ages to do it.

Due to the passion displayed in this thread and also then in the link in the first post I decided to give Earthbound a go...only about 30 mins last night but had to stop because it was 11:30pm and if I stayed at it any longer I knew it was going to be a 2/3am job.

Thanks lads for the heads up on a previously unknown classic :)

Earthbound zero is a bit old school but Earthbound is a classic. It's way ahead of it's time and has a unique setting and humour style for a JRPG. Even Yahtzee likes it and he hates JRPGs :) There's really nothing else quite like it.
