EEEPC901 ruined my ipod?

Just bought a 901 (linux 20g) this week as I'm heading away travelling for the year very soon. Anyways, plugged in my ipod nano (3rd gen? ie the 'fat' one launched last year) to charge it up. Disconnected the ipod from the machine with seemingly no problems after it had been fully charged.

Then, tried to play some songs on the nano, but all my music is gone?!

WTF? Looked at a few forums and seems as though this has happened to a few others as well. Something about DRM from apple that doesn't allow ipods to be synced with other players apart from itunes.

Is my ipod bricked now? Severely pissed off at the moment.

It's not "bricked" - that would mean the iPod is dead. Depending on your settings on the iPod itself, you may only be able to sync it to one library. So even if you connected it to someone else's PC/Mac running iTunes and let it sync, all the existing music gets deleted. Since Linux is not capable of running iTunes, I'm not sure what application may have tried to sync to the iPod but that is what most likely deleted everything. Simply connect it back to your iTunes PC and sync everything back. It should be fine then. You may want to change the settings to "Manually Manage Music" and it may help you avoid the same problem next time you connect it to the Eee. If on the Eee you get any prompts to sync, just cancel them and your existing music should be fine.

Do you actually want to sync music from the Eee to the iPod or will you only be using it to charge it?

the eeepc didn't ruined your ipod.

the eeepc you are using was a linux one, the ipod isn't supported in linux so anything you do with your ipod and eeepc is at your own risk tbh.

The joys of buying into apple I'm afraid, just re sync with your normal computer and it should restore the licenses, know that that is no good to you on the road but it will get it working for now

Managed to 'fix' it alright. Restored original settings on my macbook and reloaded all the music from my itunes on it. Then updated the linux on the eeepc with the xepc.org repository so my media player doesn't mount the ipod automatically when I connect it. Will be able to charge the ipod on the road now with the eeepc so thats all i wanted.

To be fair, the problem made me learn to use some of the functionality of the linux terminal so it was worthwhile in the end.
