    Hi All,

This is my first thread here.

I'm doing a website for business. I'm leaving in Ireland but the domain name is .com
My question is: Do I have register a company here in Ireland to do so??

If so, would you please tell me which steps do I have to follow?

    Thanks very much in advance.

Anyone can buy a .com. There aren't any special requirements to register ( as there are for .ie)

You can query the availability of the domain you want through any reseller site.

Easiest option is just to buy the domain through whoever you are buying hosting from.

Hi Duckjob, Thanks for the response.

    I got already a xyz.com domain.

    My Question is:

Do I need to register an Irish company here in Ireland to sell products within this website which has a .com domain instead of .ie domain??

    I'm living in Ireland.

If so, which steps should I have to follow?

    Thanks in advance.

Then your question (I think) is about establishing a legal business entity which is a separate issue to your domain. If it is, you might want to ask the mods to move it to Enterpreneurial & Bus Mgt as you might get more directly relevant info there.

In order to trade, you need to establish a business entity such as a sole trader, partership or limited company.

Easiest option (from an admin point of view) is the sole trader route, where you simply register with the revenue for tax self assessment, and if necessary, for VAT. However, being a sole trader affords you less legal protection than would a limited company.

You should research these options yourself if you have not already done so as I can't really advise you as to which is the best option for your circumstances.

The domain, as I said is a separate issue. A domain by itself has no legal business identity. It just so happens that to get a .ie domain, the IEDR requires that you be able to demonstrate a need for it (usually by virtue of already having a company or business name of the same name).

I'm open to correction from other posters if any of what I've posted is inaccurate.

    Hello Duckjob,

    Thanks for the quick response.

    I'm Sorry for misunderstanding.

    Let me start over.

I have a website xyz.com with a shopping cart to sell products within Ireland/UK and the rest of Europe and the users/customers will pay through paypal.

I just wondering If I need to register a legal company here to do so as I'm living here in Ireland?

    Thanks in advance.

If your business is going to be based here in Ireland (and from what you've said, it will be) , then you will need to register a legal business entity of one form or another. As I said in the previous post, that doesn't have to be a limited company, it could be a sole trader or partnership.

Hopefully that clears it up :)
