NTL/UPC Digital offer

Hi this has probably been addressed before but I couldn't find it ....

Currently I have NTL analogue TV. Paying about 24Euro a month for the honour. While looking for a new non phone line internet provider I noticed that NTL were offering Digital Internet and TV for 40Euro (plus free DVR but only if you were a new customer the b*stards.) So looked all over the place to see if this was on top of the current price but could find no mention of it anywhere even went through the process of booking it online and it told me my TOTAL bill would be 40Euro a month so I went ahead a got it.

But now I'm thinking I was incredibly stupid, OF COURSE NTL are going to charge me for analogue too and suddenly the deal doesn't look so great so my question is if this is the case is it possible for me to get rid of analog? would anyone recommend this? You can't record Digital from a good'ol video player or can you? If not should I pay the 5Euro a month for DVR? Is DVR any good?

Sorry about all the questions but digital TV is a scary new world to me.

    Cheers.

They're not going to charge for analogue too. You can now get digital for €20 and keep the analogue. The deal is as cheap as it sounds.

Thanks for the reply, great news too. I'll be getting more channels and better internet for less then i'm paying now.

    Cheers!

i currently have upc analogue and broadband - they KEEP ringing and sending me letters about getting their fantastic phone line - was just about to eat the head of them for the latest cold call but this time they offered my a digital box WITH pvr and 60 channels for only €5 odd extra a month :) cant complain with that!!

they mentioned they were limiting offers but that could be baloney - i'd say chance callin em and ask them for the offer?

    so i will be paying

    40 - 20meg broadband
    23 + 5 for digital and pvr

so almost 70 a month in total but i am on the max bband package. still a good deal i think!

    00sully,
It should be even cheaper than that. I also noticed recently that now the cheapest digital TV package costs 20E/month, while I'm paying 23.50E/month for analogue TV. I called them today and asked about that. They said I could switch to digital TV and start paying 20E/month and there is no new contract required, it's just a continuation of current contract with service change. The DVR option costs 5E/month, so if you add that to digital TV it makes it 25E/month (not 23 + 5). You should call them and clarify that.

I'll be probably switching myself as it's cheaper than analogue TV and I can have DVR for 1.50E extra compared to what I'm paying currently.

Plus you get double the channels, much better picture and audio quality and you can continue to use the old analogue TV service in other rooms.

Of course this is all a ploy by UPC to get people off analogue and unto digital, so that they can switch the analogue service off,

The switch will leave you on a 12 month contract....

As I said earlier I was told the change would not start a new 12 month contract - it would be change of service.

Of course they will switch off analogue service at some stage, but I don't see it as a 'ploy' as 1st of all it's cheaper plus all the advantages you mentioned.
