 Can anyone suggest a DVB-C PVR with a Conax card reader - Not for N*L/Ch**rs, but local cable provider in Dungarvan

I'd suggest that you contact Casey Cablevision on : 058 41845

They may be able to give you further information about what can be provided for your connection.

Indeed the warning goes out now - the rules against discussing pirating cable/MMDS apply as much to Casey Cablevision (or SCTV for that matter - despite the obvious irony) as they do to Chorus NTL.

Unless Casey Cablevision authorise the use of third party equipment in their terms and conditions, its as illegal to use it as it is with Chorus NTL.

Casey Cablevision are also small and very innovative, so it would be worth having a chat with them about what's possible. They're far from being a faceless organisation with call centres as its only point of contact.

Have you ever tried ring Ca**y TV - Very poor customer service.
They did have a recordable receiver available, but no-longer supply - too many tech. issues, when I asked could they recomend an alternate, they couldn't:rolleyes:

Get Satellite then. Choice of Sky+ or SkyHD for PayTV or 100s of good boxes for free Satellite. I only recommend a Freesat branded box for PVR on FTA satellite as the EPG is needed to schedule recordings.

A PC based solution (Windows or Linux) is expensive and complex to get working but you can have two HD satellite tuner cards and a Dual Terrestrial Tuner with a full scheduling EPG via Internet. A PC or non-Sky PVR is just about possible with a card reader for a Sky Card for legitmate alternative for the Pay TV channels you subscribe to, but not for faint hearted and Sky can legitmately kill your card.

With Cable you have to take just what they offer.

Thanks - My cable TV channels are fine, I just can't record them - was only looking for a PVR to record missed programs:). As my provider DID at one stage provide recordable boxes, I'm disappointed they've stopped. I'll keep looking then ......

Analogue recorder, i.e. 99 Euro Dunnes DVD or else a more expensive HDD analog input PVR.

There are some RGB input model HDD analogue recorders.

Anything else needs the supply or co-operation of your cable provider. TBH having tested various boxes for Terrestrial, Cable and Satellite and also PC solutions, without an Integrated EPG to schedule recordings it's very poor compared with the Operator Integrated EPG solutions.

Do other cable companies in this country recommend alternates?

No. Nor in UK either. In fact they come an disconnect you or even you end up in court if they think you are using an "Alternate".

One exception is SmallWorld in the UK who even provide tuning lists for their DVB-C services.
