Find out how everyone else feels about getting paid late and then approach your boss as a representative of them.

Makes you far less confrontational and would probably make him more open to reason.

He also can't fire you for raising a grievance.

Can you not just tell him it's unacceptable?

What's your relationship with your boss like?

What could he fire you for?

Follow him home, give out to him and then kill him. Make sure nobody sees you and have an alibi.

join the civil sevice and you get give out all you like and keep your job :D

on a serious note: explain your situation from the point of view that you have commitments, bills, direct debits and you need a formal pay date.

Well if he is like this then its not going to pay you to be giving him hassle. Is he only paying Septembers wages now? If so it might be time to find an new employer. Perhaps he is under pressure with debtors paying later and later?

Bring up your grievance, get fired, sue the crap out of him at the labour courts for unfair dismissal.

    Sleep with him for money.

Exactly. Or don't bother asking anyone else in case he were to take that like you're agitating your colleagues. From the fact he doesn't pay you on time I assume he's not one for dealing with things professionally. I also wouldn't find it that professional to ask people under me their opinions on the boss or work conditions. They should really bring it to your attention if it bothers them.

As you're a line manager just approach your boss and say you've being asked to raise it with him. i.e. you're perfectly happy with his mismanagement because you're a team player but some of the minions are annoyed. That way you don't have to take responsibility for bringing up the issue and you can hide behind "professional confidentiality" if he flies off. Doing it this way puts you nicely in the position of devils advocate as you aren't there for personal gain but just to ensure the company runs smoothly.

Remember if you don't handle this as circumspectly as you can, while he may not be able to terminate you he can certainly make your life miserable.

No absolutely. I took "senior enough" to mean that she's not a manager/boss, but she'd have the respect of the rest of the people.

If she's management herself, then raising it directly as a concern of the minions is the best way to go.

Ah, no it's just that my default setting is always "Now while it doesn't bother me directly I think we need to be aware that. . ."

    :D

check your contract. If the contract says you will be paid on X date each month then he is in breach of it if he is not paying you on time. What if you had direct debits coming out and he hasnt paid you on time?

maybe put a note in your phone to remind him early next month to get the payroll in!

Fired you for what? The employment laws in this country are quite strict, so your boss can't just fire you without due process, unless it is in relation to gross misconduct!

I think a chat explaining the issue should suffice outlining the problem it causes. If he said that he forgot to do it etc, then offer to have someone help with it.

No need to go quoting employment legislation or anything yet!

By the way, i admire any of my direct reports who arent afraid to question things as long as its done in the right away. Then again not all managers are confident to take feedback so well!

I agree with faceman- approach your boss with the solution instead of the problem. You know that they are really busy.....lots of demands....yada yada. Youve been getting some feedback....If there is any job you could take on for them to help.
That way you get paid on time, learn a new skill AND create a good arguement for a pay rise!!!! (or just keep your job)

Did you ever watch Star Trek, when Riker would go into Jean Luc's ready room and argue with him about whatever? Do it like that. Though in your case, use less beard.

Lies, more beard is needed. MOAR
Riker is nothing without his beard, as are you.

Though, as i recall Riker lost every one of those arguments because well... it's Jean Luc.

No amount of beard can get you the upper hand in a discussion with a completely bald man. Its like rock, paper, scissors.

"Here boss, I have several direct debits set to come out on our pay date and have been contacted by my bank as the funds were not there on time in recent months. Please can my account be credited on pay date."

That shouldn't put his nose out of joint should it?

Re-enact that scene from fight club where he beats himself up in his bosses office!

He'll give you whatever you want.

    FACT!
