I am not sure if this is the correct forum to post this so mods feel free to move it.

I am looking to download a IQ Testing program. I'm unsure of IQ Test's ability to help with recruiting but I have been asked to find one for someone.

Just wondering if someone can recommend one (not necessarily free) that is good.

I have already downloaded a few freebies, a few online ones, and a paid one and none are all that great at all.

you could just get the person to do this in an office http://www.mensa.org.uk/mensa-test/

you should leave the office while they do it though to reduce unnecessary pressure

to be honest its a prity poor way of doing an interview

The questions should be based around the skills needed to do the job

Exactly , all it will prove is how much practice on these type of puzzles the person did..

You really need to source appropriate aptitude tests, not IQ tests (you can legally be brought before the Equality Authority for even suggesting to administer an IQ test).........

Understood, all i can do is relay this info. Any suggestions for aptitude software? The role is administrative duties.

Well an IQ test will only measure the applicants ability to do IQ tests not their suitability to the job.

An Aptitude test shouldn't be too difficult to come up with. All you need to do is make a bunch of questions covering different aspects of the role. Just make a list of the skills that you require for the job, and then create a few questions based around each required skill. They needn't nessecarily require answers to be right or wrong, but make a few of the questions a bit tough to give you some wiggle room to weed out the weaker candidates.

I don't really think there is a need for software to be honest as it would probably take less or the same amount of time for somebody to do this with a pen and paper. Even if some just spends a few minutes using google they can get quite a few good aptitude questions for pretty much any role.

To tell you the truth, most administrative roles do not require much "aptitude". A monkey could do them. (I say this as an office administrator)

What you are looking for in an administrator is someone who is bright (hopefully this will help them be efficient and learn quickly), has an open, friendly personality (they will be in contact with the whole office), is discreet (depending on the position they would be privy to details of payroll including bonuses), and most of all takes initiative and has the drive to get things done. Experience is good but accept that with experience often comes "bad habits".

Computer skills are honestly the only vital skill - and it amazes me what is considered an acceptable level of computer knowledge here.

I would say it's extremely unethical to give a candidate an IQ test! You should be able to gauge their intelligence from their CV and their performance in the interview.

If I went to an interview and was presented with an IQ test, i'd walk out.

IQ test is used to test an applicant how fast will he/she be able to solve a completely unexpected problem. It's more of a speed of thought test, although it doesn't measure how fast you can criticise or create new ideas/things.

you could always investigate the possibility of introducing psychometric testing......it's often used to determine the 'type' of person which may be more appropriate (although a company would typically adopt that as part of it's recruitment policy rather than a 'one off' for a particular position.

From my experience they tend to be a very good indication of the person and their suitability for a particular type of role.

I had psychometric testing which included a full IQ test (Wechsler Adult Intelligence scale) prior to being offered my current job. There are several companies who do them in Dublin.
