Poor iSight

Just had iSight throw in the towel. Not detected in System Profiler, let alone Photo Booth or iChat.

Followed instructions on Apple's site. It involved reboot and holding down cmd + p + r (IIRC). No luck.

Then tried removing the battery for a while, holding down the power button for five seconds and starting up again. No luck here either.

Any ideas? Sure hope I don't have to send it away for some surgery.

Sure thing. MacBook Pro (revision 4.1) running 10.5.5.

Attached is what I'm getting in Photo Booth.

As I see it it could be:
    1. Photobooth App is corrupt
    or
    2. Camera has died
    or
    3. Camera cable has broken

1 and 2 are unlikely but it could be 3. As I recall the iSight cable snakes around the left lid hinge on its way up from the logic board. So lots of use could snag or break it.
Have a look at ifixit.com for illustrated guides. Its not too hard to take the top cover off to expose the cable, a wiggle might fix it!!
If you want to try replacing the photobooth app, pm me your email and I'll send you a copy of mine.

I dual boot with Linux and the camera's not being detected (gives coloured bars as one might see in a TV broadcast of some sort).

Disappointing but what can you do. Time to make use of that extended AppleCare. Thanks for the replies :)

I also have an isight problem.......it works but the quality is terrible, very grainy and not the super sharp image as per the apple website :rolleyes:

Is this normal? As I haven't seen another isight in action I have nothing to compare the quality to.

    cheers.

Edit: I have a newish (one month old) MBP.
