Something weird going on with my Macbook. There is a kind of "knock knock.......knock knock" noise coming through the speakers. I have no music or video or anything running in the background, and even did a reboot to make sure. Still happening though. Stops with the mute button.

    Anyone any ideas?

Is there a microphone attached to your Macbook? Built in or on a webcam?

I would imagine there is one built in with the webcam.

If you do have a microphone built in or attached, then see if it is turned on and more than likely turned up too. Without more information, this seems like the most obvious cause of the sound you are hearing, combined with what you say about the sound disappearing after you press the MUTE button.

Nothing wrong with the Macbook. I won't embarrass myself by telling you what the problem was! :o

    Thanks for the suggestions.

Go on. It might help someone else with a similar problem. Or at the very least give us a laugh.
