    Hi Guys

In a bit of a conundrum. Set up an os x 10.4.11 server last year for a friend, mail, ftp, php the works. Mail is working fine for all his staff they're all accessing via imap can create/edit folders etc. Now he in the last two days since he got a new imac (10.5.5) has completely locked out the account, I cannot access it from a 10.4 mac or from outlook on the pc, I've rebuilt the mailboxes, mailbox.db etc etc etc he can download all his other folders but his inbox will not sync or open mail just sits there in the progress bar with nothing happening. Have endlessly googled solutions for cyrus imap but to no avail hoping someone here may have run into a similar situation. Not a command line guru but I'm comfortable enough in it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Nialler

I've no direct experience here, but if it was me, I might try setting up a new test user account on his 10.5.5 iMac and a new test email account on the server and see if the client can see the account.

Won't fix the issue with the live account, but might help you determine whether it is a problem with migrating an existing account to a new OS X version, or whether it is an issue for even a new account which was never used with 10.4.x

    Hi type17

Unfortunately all the mail is stored on the server (IMAP) so there was no migration really involved just setting up the account on the 10.5.4 iMac no it may only be a coincidence but it started going whacky sometime after that, although it was working fine for a week beforehand. All other users are accessing via IMAP perfectly and with the exception of one account has worked perfectly for just over a year.

I know what you mean about all the mail being on the server, I use a mix of POP and IMAP accounts on my own Macs.

Although there was no migration involved, the account on the server was previously being accessed by a 10.4 client, and I wondered if this had caused some characteristics that meant the 10.5 client couldn't access it, but you just mentioned that it worked for a week on the 10.5 client, so it does look like a coincidence.

Given that you've rebuilt the mail db etc, the only other things that I can think of are:

How about checking if his iMac can access any of the other email accounts (on a temporary basis, obviously).

You might try an OS X archive & install on the iMac, to see if that helps.

I might try that. Also I'm beginning to think there might be a problem with the mailbox rebuild as I did it as root and not cyrus account so the ACLs might be a bit shagged on it. Tis amazing what a bit of painting will do for your thinking processes (painting as in kitchen wall not van gogh).

Certainly worth a look - the lack of progress without any error messages could well be an ACL-type issue.

    Let us know either way...

    PS: watch out for dribbles!

Well at this till about 2.45 this morning, deeper issues invovled, went into postfix's main.cf and that has no reference to cyrus at all, so it looks like it's been hanging on by the skin of it's teeth, so I think it's a complete rebuild of the mail system. GRRRRRRRRR.
