    English says ’no’ to Dublin

Tipperary legend Nicky English has turned down the chance to become the next Dublin hurling manager.

Senior Dublin county board officials met with English on a number of occasions over the past six weeks, but the 2001 All-Ireland winning manager has informed them that he could not take on the job at this particular time.

English, who is based in the capital, has been the number one target for the county board to lead their hurlers in 2009, but they now must look elsewhere. Ger Loughnane, who was sacked as Galway manager on Monday night, could yet come into the reckoning.

Outgoing manager Tommy Naughton stepped down recently after it became clear that both the county board and the Dublin players wanted a more high-profile manager to lead them forward.
