How to delete a corrupted Time Machine backup?

    Hey everyone,

    As the title says, anyone know how to force delete a couple of corrupted Time Machine backups? I can access them when I mount my TM volume manually but I can't get rid of them via the trash cause the files are messed up. Currently Time Machine is working away fine for me and new backups are being created with no problems, so I don't want to trash the volume, format it and start again. Anyone know if it's possible to delete the corrupt files and how? Thanks!

    i stopped using TM some time ago...excuse the pun! in favour of super duper. i had a spare firewire ( must be FW) drive lying around and super duper backs up to it. the SD software also makes it bootable, so if you suffer a crash just boot up from SD drive and restore.

    TM kept crashing on me and drove me nuts in the end. i just switched it off and reformatted the TM drive/partition.

    proceed at your own risk re formatting.

    have a gawk here....

    Hi,

    I think the way you are supposed to manually delete backups is as follows;

    Highlight the backups you want to delete. At the top of the window is an icon like a cog or gearwheel. From the drop-down menu here choose "Move to trash".

    Thanks. Yep, that does seem to be the way to do it - the forum link Eirlink provided includes that solution too and it looks promising. The problem now is that I moved the corrupted backups to the trash originally (stupid in retrospect) and now I can't move them back to try the solution both of you have suggested... :mad:

    Eirlink, I've heard good things about Super Duper... does it do incremental backups like TM does? Can it be set up on a schedule? Time Machine does annoy me quite a bit due to the lack of options, but on the other hand, I'm naturally useless at remembering to backup, so it's nice to "set and forget" it.
