i checked out loads of differeny websites and rang loads of people about a judo club in the limerick, clare region.the closest one is in Tralee which i travelled to a few times.if enough people are interested in setting up training sessions.why dont we people meet up weekly and just split the cost of a hall.
    wat everyoe think??

    Sean,
Good idea to try and rekindle judo in the Clare/Limerick area. There's a club for kids run by a Lithuanian guy(brilliant Judo player by the way), in Ennis under title Ennis west judo club. This is part of a splinter group called Judo Ireland(Google it), which appears to have split from Irish Judo Association.
I'd love to get involved in Judo again even though its been some years since I participated. If anyone else is interested in moving things forward a tad please post your views and ideas... The sport does seem to have fallen away a bit in this area which is a shame.
Anyone of first dan or better in mid west area?

It's a pity no one in the UL can get the club going again.

mentioned in another thread, that the ul judo club has started back up. they train mondays at 6pm in the old sports building and are trying to organise a second day.

I went to my 1st class last monday cant remember the instructors name but there are 2 blackbelts anyway. you should pop down monday n have a look.

    JudoSean:

I'll try and get a phone contact for the Ennis West Club for you.

The Ennis West club is run for kids only at the moment, and I think it's under the auspices of Judo Ireland rather than the Irish Judo Association.

Anyone else in the Ennis area interested in doing Judo?

I would def be interested in this - would love to learn judo. I checked out that club in cloughleigh but it was all kids running around going mad - the instrucor knew nothing about adult classes - that was last year though.
UL at 6pm mon is not a runner for me because of work would be well on for a judo club in Ennis area.
    Doing taekwondo at the moment.

sure, like i said in a previous thread.we will try to organise as many people as possible.i'm thinking from between 10-20 people to be able to have a class.i'l only a blue belt but i'm sure that we can have a randori class.etc.

Good luck with getting the training off the ground! Don't underestimate yourself, you can definitely pass on enough experience as a blue belt to make the sessions worthwhile. Most clubs these days have Dan grade teachers but it wasn't always that way, in the early days of Judo most countries didn't have any black belts and had to get someone from abroad (or travel themselves) to get graded. Just read how the IJA started: http://www.irishjudoassociation.ie/content/view/14/52/ :)

I would recommend if you're taking the sessions to get a couple of Judo books for training ideas and if you like you can also invite some experienced coaches from around the country, say once a month, for some external input.
The books I would recommend to get started with for training ideas are Kodokan Judo and Attacking Judo

Good luck and enjoy the training!
