I just noticed that - Eire V Cyprus, 15th Oct 08. Yet their badge says Ireland (correctly).

They changed it recently. Had to ask the State or UEFA/FIFA for permission to use it.

Neither, the official FIFA name of the country is Republic of Ireland.

The official name of the country is Éire as per article 4 of our constitution

    Both are acceptable to use.

The crest has Ireland which could cause problems with our IFA friends in Belfast as they have prior claim to the nomenclature Ireland.

Both associations agreed many years ago to drop the sole name Ireland and so we have Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland.

They had to run it by somebody. I either got an email about it or saw it on the news.

No, they were approached by Éamon Ó'Cuív but there have been amny such requests over the years. For example the captains armband is As gaelige "Captaen" though not always used.

FAI Chief Executive John Delaney said: "We were approached by Éamon Ó Cuív, Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs about adding Éire to the stitching of our senior internationalmatch day jerseys and our board was happy to act on his idea. Irish is the first official language of the State and our players will wearit with pride".

Yep just found it on the FAI site. OK, so I'm wrong, but at least I'm not mad!
