Going thru some of my many pics I came accross this one. When I saw the pic first I thought 'WTF is that in the sky?'
Even when I zoom in on my RAW file I can't make it out!
The pic in pix.ie (below) is opened in Olympus software and saved as .JPG (with NO processing) & then resized for pix.ie.
Please tell me what it is ? I'm stumped !

Kind of hard to see, but probably just something like a Sun Dog.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,978 ✭✭✭GhostInTheRuins

Is it on any of your other shots?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,699 ✭✭✭ThOnda

I don't see anything unusual, sorry. I must be blind.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,146 ✭✭✭Morrisseeee

Yeah, Check out pix.ie for 'Lighthouse Orig', this one was taken 10sec earlier.
The lads here have looked at it, and some conclusions are :
bird diving > possible, but I didn't see it at the time
small flying insect in front of camera > mmm, possible
    cloud > don't think so
    aliens > ditto
and lastly: its a lighthouse, silly > not funny!

Sorry ThOnda, its in the sky, above the lighthouse.

It's very hard to see, but it looks like a lighthouse to me

   ...It's a CLOUD!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,216 ✭✭✭✭monkeyfudge

If we play around with the colour balance in photoshop a little bit you can see that's no moon... it's a space station.

    eek.gif...It's a CLOUD!

    emmmmm.......NO

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,480 ✭✭✭projectmayhem

   ...It's a CLOUD!

It's probably dirt in the air, or an insect... but a cloud? It doesn't remotely look like a cloud!

This is something to be sold to Sci Fi on the premise that you were "abused" by aliens!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,978 ✭✭✭GhostInTheRuins

I think it's more likely to be a brid than a cloud, insect, alien spacecraft, small moon or space station :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,146 ✭✭✭Morrisseeee

    Would a
    brid
be an unidentified flying object ?

But seriously, (although I am having a laugh at some suggestions), WHF is it ?

I go with Monkeyfudge's suggestion best yet although the Sundog theory sounds more plausible

Don't open this link unless you have fashioned yourself a head protection device from a roll of foil.

Oh, you've meant that cloud? It is a cloud only, sorry for disappointing you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,978 ✭✭✭GhostInTheRuins

    Doesn't look like a cloud

How long was the exposure? Anything under 1/80th and I say it's a seagull.

It looks like sundog, reflecting the light like a prism. I don't think it's a cloud although it could be one at very high altitude.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,146 ✭✭✭Morrisseeee

Deffo not a cloud, as the pic 10sec earlier doesn't have it.

A group of pixels on your sensor had a hissy fit ?
    Could have been worse...

this is what amazes me about pictures of ufo's there all so fuzzy not one convincing sharp shot of a ufo if I saw that in one of my pictures I'd say 'oh a piece of fluff was on my lens when i took the picture'

its a small fuzzy light coloured blob in a photograph it could be a piece of paper that flew out of your pocket when you took the picture.

it could be anything. why did you decide that it might be a craft from another planet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,355 ✭✭✭punchdrunk

    tis a burd :D

    it could be anything.

I'm looking for a good logical explanation !

It looks like a cloud, but the fact that it was not there 10 secs earlier sort rules that out.

It's really hard to tell how far away from the lens that blur is (These Cows are very small & those Cows are a long way away) Maybe it's a small object, like an insect, quite close to the lens & hence out of focus?

Its a seed (grass seed etc) on the lense.

I've seen a few like that this year myself. They'd appear on one shot and be gone the next. I've 2 or 3 shots like it at home...

It sticks for a moment and blows off again as you move the camera through the air.

mmmmm.......interesting, sounds plausible, but.......I was a good bit from a grass field !
