The daily news is chockoblock with info with all this budget/doom/gloom/recession/depression type lark and the american presidential campaign.

You'd wonder is there anything else going on in the world at all.

    The Russia vs. Georgia debacle?
Whats Mugabe up to these days?
Any craic down in south america?
Not to mention China are off the radar again after the two olympic sized chunks they had our attention for.
A bit of famine or natural disaster surely!

    Come on news people!

Local Tallton County resident, Randy Stratton, claims that everyone on his street has a crush on him. Randy says that whenever he is outside or pulls up into his drive-way, his next-door neighbors always look out their windows. "....Yeah, and you know, when I drive my dump-truck home from work some evenings, I see them lustfully peering out their windows at me. I know when I'm out there watering the lawn, the older lady across the street comes out in her nightgown, and slippers, with rollers in her hair and always waves at me. I guess that's her way of trying to be sexy, I don't know. My other neighbor must be gay or something, because he's a man, and whenever I come out of my garage with my tools to do work on the outside of the house, he's always smiling and waving at me, and sometimes even tries to say hello to me. They're not foolin' anybody, especially not me...", said Randy. Randy says he's starting to feel uncomfortable living in his neighborhood, with all of the neighbors lusting after him, and is thinking about moving to another street. "It's the only thing I can do, I guess. Pretty soon, I'll have the whole block after me", added Randy.

    Here is some BREAKING NEWZ

Listen to some Bill Hicks. He'll cheer you right up. Or read Charlie Brookers' articles in the Guardian online...(I could link, but I'm too depressed....aw).

I think it's ch*te the way as soon as Mugabe "officially" became president the international community just kind of walked away backward whistling... We can't just stop covering that news because he got through! It's ridiculous! we should be covering it even more!

And the same for the rest of the news.

    Rant finito.

Natural disasters have been pushing things in the past few years with floods in particular stepping outside their usual comfort zone of poor areas into more affluent regions. I think if they were to start acting up again now on top of all the financial doom and gloom, people would get fed up with them and say enough is enough so they are staying away.

As for Georgia, Mugabe etc. it's a bit like the entertainment business. You don't release your middle of the road action film at the same time the Dark Knight is out and you don't schedule a low budget soap for the same time Coronation Street is on.

Mugabe and co. will be back on our screens when economic issues die down. They don't want to embarass themselves by holding a press conference to an empty room do they? How many people noticed something or other about Sudanese war crimes on the news yesterday? It barely even registered.

Kofi Annan is giving a talk about world hunger in Ireland today. I can only assume that was a prior arrangement from a long time ago before this credit crunch hit as Kofi's a seasoned pro and knows better.
