My LCD Tv Has no HDMI Port

I bought a 22'' LCD LG (HD Ready) TV in Xtravision in Baggot street the other day and when I bought a HDMI Cable to hook my PS3 up with I found there was no HDMI Port in the TV,
Surely if it is HD Ready it should have a HDMI Port?
I heard you can get a HMDI Adapter to plug in the Tv then connect it to the cable, anyone know anything bout this?

Can you post the model number if you have it and i'll try find out some more info for you? Would be very surprised if you purchased it that recently if it has no HDMI port?

Not nessessarily. Componant can carry HD as well. Caveat Emptor and all that.

True. It's just a more expensive solution if I recall to run PS3 component/audio cable.
In terms of the quality, component will give you the same resolution as the HDMI cable would have considering your LCD is HD ready not Full HD.

To have the Hd ready logo TV's must have either a HDMI port or a DVI port and must be compliant with HDCP.

HDMI is backwards compatible with DVI , and a simple adaptor will carry a picture but no sound , another cable would have to be run to the TV to carry sound.

A DVI port looks like this ,

If your TV does not have either a HDMI port or a DVI port then it is not a HD ready TV and should not carry the logo. It should not have been sold as a HD ready TV and you would be fully entitled to a refund.

Component alone is not enough to carry a HD ready logo.

If you do have a DVI port then one of these would get your TV working with the HDMI cable you already have , you would still have to run an extra cable for sound though.

They can be found cheaper than the option in the link. Alternatively there are DVI to HDMI cables.

Are you sure? Or more to the point is this a fairly new thing?
I ask as my Panny 42" is maybe two years old and was sold as "HD Ready" with just component input (going up to 720). I knew what I was buying at the time and as it's not my main movie viewing screen there's no issue but it was quite clear at the time that it would support HD but without HDMI.

Has it got a HD ready logo ?

If it does then its not filling the compulsory requirements to have one and it shouldnt have been sold as HD ready.

The HD ready logo requirements are about 3 or 4 years old. It specifies a minimum set of requirements , that is not to say that other TV's are not capable of HD , but to carry that logo it should have a HDCP compliant digital input.

ok i emailed extravision HQ and this is what they wrote back

'' Hi, thanks for your email. Sorry for the slight delay in getting back to your regarding your purchase.

I have contacted our electronics department, and technically yes, that TV is HD Ready. There is a 5-port HD component input on it, and also the DVI input is a high definition input.

To connect your PS3 by a HD signal to this, you will need a Sony PS3 HD component cable. It is also possible to get a HDMI to DVI cable, but I've been told that this cable will not carry sound to the TV. In this case you would then also have to connect the PS3 to an audio set up (like a home cinema system) via an optical cable.

I've been informed that the maximum resolution the TV can display is 720p/1080i, and this can be achieved in the 2 ways described above.

    Hope this answers your question''

Reasonably impressive response from xtravision I have to say. It was always a concern when they started selling home electronics that would not be able to provide this kind of service (albeit remotely via a helpdesk)
They have answered the question and I cannot contribute any more than what they have told you.
Are you just looking to hook it up to your screen or do you have a seperate sound system?
If its just TV then the PS3 component cable is all you need as they said.

    Cheers.
