eBay item lost in post

    Hi All,

I bought an item on eBay over a month ago (45days to be precise) from a seller in the US, to be delivered to a US address. USPS list the item as "Delivery Attempted, Notice left" at the destination, but no notice was left at the address. I assumed that the item would then be returned to sender, but as of now it has not been returned.

What can I do from here, I am still in contact with the seller, he has said that he will contact USPS. Am I entitled to a refund?

    any opinions appreciated...

Why did you wait so long? If you had the tracking number, and the website said a delivery attempt was made, why not contact them straight away to arrange collection?

45 days is the limit for a Paypal dispute, so you might not be able to start one now, and if you can't then the seller will be under no pressure/obligation to refund you.

Correction... Item was posted on 9th Sept, attempted delivery on the 11th, so that is only 37days ago... The delay was waiting for the item to be return-to-sender.. .

It still hasn't arrived at sender, so I have now opened a paypal dispute... What d'ya reckon the outcome will be?

Have you put the tracking number into AnPost website?
They handle USPS packages when they enter the country.

Just put the tracking number into AnPost, and if there's some discrepancy, just ring AnPost. The package is probably sitting in your local mail depot the last few weeks.

It was to be delivered to a US address, not an Irish one...

Yeah guys the tracking number is USPS, it shows that a delivery was attempted but not successful.
No more information then that. I would have thought it would RTS after being unclaimed after 2 weeks, but its been twice that by now, and still no sign of it being returned...

cheers for the comments - has anyone been in a similar position, do you think I could get a full refund, full refund less shipping, or have to split the total cost with the seller?

It may not have been returned at all, it could be still at the post office.

Since the tracking shows that the delivery was attempted, the seller is somewhat protected until it shows as being returned or delivery is confirmed. I don't think Paypal will do much until it's proven to be lost or returned.
