What good hotel to recommend in Midtown New York

Guys, I'm going on holidays next year to New York staying in around Midtown Manhattan area. Any one that would recommend nice hotel?? I've looked at hotels online and all seems to be old and dreary something nice for the birthday girl:D that is reasonable. (I want to spend my money on shopping)
