No picture from DVI -> HDMI connection

    Hi guys,
I have a custom built PC, which I am trying to connect up to my TV. Here are my specs:

    TV = 50" Panasonic Viera TH50PY70EY
Graphics Card = ATI Club HD3850 AGP
DVI output connected through DVI -> HDMI cable

I've installed the latest drivers, and when I hook up the 2nd DVI output to the TV, the PC detects the Panasonic TV, but there is no picture, no matter what settings I apply. I've set the resolution to the native resolution of the TV (1950 x 1080) @ 60Hz. I've also applied the HDTV settings within the Catalyst Control centre to set it to 1080p @ 60Hz. I've also tried various alterations of these settings and resolutions, but I never get any kind of picture whatsoever. I've searched high and low on the internet for solutions, but to no avail, and am now at the end of my tether!! This is the 3rd graphics card I've tried this with, as initially, I thought it may be down to the lack of HDCP on my previous cards, but this doesn't seem to be the case, as I now have an up to date HDCP compliant card.

Any help or ideas are appreciated!

    Thanks,
    hynsey

    What OS you using ?

    Try this
I right click on desk top.
Click properties or Personalize if using vista.
    Display Settings.
Their should be numbers 1 & 2. showing that you can have 2 displays from the one video card.
    Note that...
This is my main monitor is ticked, also that Extend desktop onto this monitor is also ticked.
Now go to monitor 2 and click the 2 box's that i have mentioned above, tick them and hit apply.
You should have image on your TV i would hope.

    +1 BadCharlie

And you have choice of extending the desktop or cloning the desktop to both displays. If you clone, the resolution output will be the same for both displays.

And it can be done through the Catalyst Control centre also.

I was just thinking that maybe you have the wrong option selected on TV, which could be the problem also.

I have DVI connected to my video card. And the HDMI connected to a HDMI port on my TV. When i want to see a picture on my TV. I need to go into Menu, then select Device Imputs. ITs normaly on 1.Av1 which gives me sky ect.. All i need to do is select 5.HDMI and i have PC picture. I do not click on option 8.PC as im not using the PC port to connect my Computer to TV, But using the HDMI cable.

hi BadCharlie, thanks for the response. I've got both Vista and XP installed on the machine, and can't get it to work with either. I've already done what you suggest in terms of the multidesktop options, and I've set the correct native res on the TV's output, but still no joy. The TV has specific HDMI inputs for selection, and I'm selecting the one I have my HDMI cable from the PC connected to.

    Any other thoughts?

    Thanks,

Only other 2 things I can think off is.

    1. Check your TV user Manuel which im sure you have all ready.

    2. Get onto a Forum that talks about your TV. As in look for a Panasonic forum and then TV section.

You must be having some other problem which i my self have not encountered.

Cheers again BadCharlie. Yeah manual doesn't give me anything useful, I'll look for some Panasonic TV specific forums so.

Did you try connecting the TV to the first DVI port? i.e. disconnect PC monitor

Or just switch the DVI cables connections on your PC. 1 to TV. 2 to PC

I wouldnt trust the native resolution thats in the catalyst control center. Mine says that res too but my TV is 1366x768. Try a lower resolution and also try 50Hz which suits TV playback better (for me anyway) as PAL sis 25Hz interlaced.
