If you're a mature student I don't think you need your leaving cert, or if thats not good enough I think that they run courses for people to help them get into college.Probably depends on the course, and I think that you'd have to sit an interview to see if they think that the course would suite you.
Failing all that you can always go back and do the leaving, a few people I know that wanted to go further in education but didn't have the leaving, did a course where they ended up sitting the leaving.
In my opinion you'd probably be better off doing the leaving first as without the experience of doing it and what you'd learn , you probably would find it extremely difficult to get by in college.

You could do a one year course in the Wcfe (formally the cti).. If you do well in that you can progress to most IT's around the country. Afaik you don't need a leaving cert to be accepted into a course in the wcfe you do need to do an interview but it is usually pretty casual.

WIT offer a one year course for mature students without a leaving cert which covers 3 "key" areas. Business, Science/Engineering, and something else. I would expect they would require that you do this first if you don't have a LC or are out of education a long time. After this you can generally apply for entry to any of the courses in the same way as any mature student would.

What sort of course are you looking to do?

    Edit:
http://www2.wit.ie//real/ is what I was talking about.

You can do part time courses with WIT and you don't need a leaving cert.It states it on the pre-requisites that you may need it, but it depends on the course, even at that ignore it because its all about money and numbers when it comes to part time. They wont even ask.If they cant get the right numbers to start then the course wont run.You can do a Higher Cert part time (3 years)and then if you want go back full time to finish your degree which would be another 2 years. The only thing I would say is if you havent your leaving cert and theres maths involved you may find it a bit difficult or just new to you,but dont fret I know people who have done it with no leaving.Even some had a leaving and still struggled. You can get grinds if you have to.Dont knock it on the head though it can be done.Just be sure you pick the right course, find out as much about it as you can, talk to lecturers, past pupils etc but above all make sure it interests you that will be your motivation the rest is just going to class (try make them all), get your assignments done (very important) and study. You can actually pass some subjects on assignments alone but you still have to sit the exam.Hope this helps.:)
