Does Sky have any plans to release the new EPG on Sky+ or is it just an exclusive for Sky HD ?

I think it's only for HD boxes.

would be nice to have a picture at the same time. the current one is very dated. I have a pioneer hard drive dvd recorder with guideplus epg and it is very good. You have the picture and about 6 or 7 channels and there is more than one colour used!

I assume it is a way to force people to move to the hd boxes

It might be dated but the speed of the Sky EPG compared with many cable operators makes it a joy to use. I'd be worried that including pictures would slow it down slightly. My Magnet system had a 1/2 second delay sometimes more and it was incredibly annoying.

I think the new EPG is specifically for HD boxes, and will make use of the box for a HD menu, getting more text etc onscreen without it turning into a blur (as it would in SD)

Its due out in Autumn.. but rumours abound say it wont be released until 2009 around March. From what I heard, the mini-TV can be turned off to give more space for showing listings, if desired. There's a lot of discussion on it over at DS.

is it possible to get a hd box and not subscribe to the package to benefit from the epg.

    .

you can get a hd box and not pay the €15 sub (wont get it at €74 or whatever the offer is at the mo though.)

its a bit costly just to get a nicer looking epg .

just an idea, not gonna do it. You would get more recording time also though
with the bigger hard drive? What about the sd picture on a hd box, is there a difference?
