Hi all just looking for some info. I'm going to NY to do the Bar Exam in Feb. I had intended to come back here but now Im not so sure. Has anyone here any experience of working in the US especially NYC? I am interested in opinions relating to how easy it is to seek employment, pay and conditions and other such information. Thanks.

Don't know all that much about it, but have heard from various sources that a US LLM, in addition to Bar Exam, is almost a necessity in securing employment.

You could try contacting the Irish American Bar Association of New York, some of their tips for Irish law graduates on Making it as a Lawyer in New York can be found on:

There must be a forum for NYC lawyers, find it and ask them the question.

Legally all you need to practise law in NYC is to pass the NY state bar. However given the current economic climate, the fact that every college student who graduates with a BA in Liberal Arts then goes onto law school, you are in fierce competition with some of the finest graduates in the nation: Columbia, NYU, Princeton,Yale.

Furthmore, no HR department wants to deal with foreign working visas anymore. Its an expensive nightmare for them and with all the graduates coming out of NYC, the world is their oyster.
