    Howdy ,

I myself play a bit of guitar, a bit of Bass, a bit of keyboard, my co conspirator on the board here Doctor J plays a bit of Guitar, Bass, Drums and his own flute most often, we plan on putting a DIY album together after working on some collaborations previously.....

We go under the name The Linus Scheme here's some stuff that has been done previously, different people have contributed in different ways on some of these, the production value on these is pretty low as they were mostly slapped together for a bit if fun, we will be aiming a bit higher this time round and are capable of delivering decent sounding stuff.

    http://www.mixposure.com/Trev_M/music.php

Anyway if your interested in working on a recording project that doesnt require the usual grind of rehearsal this may be the project for you?

Myself and Doc have a wide range of influences, evidenced I guess by the previous tracks we've done....the variety will probably be wider this time round .... from Tom Petty to Black Sabbath to Carcass.

    Our proposed process is simple

Usually I compose a basic structure - (I dont expect I write all the stuff this time round)
I record it , this usually takes twice as long as I estimate .... I use a variety of drum sequencers mainly to aid with the writing process.
The result gets emailed to Doc ....several smart comments later a bass part usually arrives back.
This time round Doc has his own drum recording set up ready to go so he will replace the sequenced drums with real ones.
THEN YOU WILL ADD YOUR STUFF - you can record it yourself or I'll record you...entirely up to you.

Voila , your aunty has balls and is now your uncle and we slowly get a collection of songs we will call an album together. If by a miracle of miracles its worth doing we may gig some songs eventually but its unlikely.

This is meant to be fun and productive, it will may get kinda nerdy as we discuss the merits of one compressor/guitar/sausage over the other etc if youre interested in contributing vocally or otherwise drop a line ... Its a medium to long project , there'll be no whinging etc but you wanna be in a position to input something once or twice a month on the material.

First track is already in the oven.

    All the best ,
    Trev

I'm doing a similiar thing. Interested in helping out if anything's going.

Guitar and Keyboards would be my thing. Better bassists have posted here before me but I do a bit of that as well and some programmed drums.

Thanks everyone for the interest, its great to see all the feedback...

Mick - No doubt there's gonna be some loud and fast stuff in there so I will give you a shout , particularly where I feel Id like some killer riffage and lead work;)

Kyshwa - Im a big GNR fan:p , my comfort zone is around this type of hard rock and gererally this is where I tend to produce the most output so I'll request your services soon for some bluesy sounding lead licks and a solo perhaps.

Raindog - Given Im pretty chock full of guitarists Id like to include you maybe in Keys on some tracks if possible? I briefly had a listen to some of your material and think you might be into some fo the more atmospheric and epic;) type efforts I may be able to pull together?

Jaggedsoul - What an odd question, you browsing my internet history ? I was using those sites for research purposes I swear.:D Seriously though Im eager to include as many people as I can, regardless of race , background ability or otherwise , I managed about twelve people last time which was great. Let me know where you feel you can contribute and I'll try and include you .

Still lacking in the vocal department, I can do some myself but Id really like a cross section of styles and influences on the vocals.

Ive set up a forum on the gigsmart site - if people are interested to get on that forum PM me and I'll set up access for you.

Much obliged to everyone for your interest

    Trev

i know it was odd alright. but just had some experiences in the board that everything goes well, they hear my demo and say they like it and then when i say i'm filipino, a long silence comes after...

"Still lacking in the vocal department, I can do some myself but Id really like a cross section of styles and influences on the vocals."

i'm a vocalist. and have a number of songs written and recorded. http://www.geocities.com/jh_euclid/screaming.html would be a sample. as soon as you hear it and would want to get some more, just post or pm me :)

Had a few PM's from this thread so may aswell keep it up to date.

Two tracks are on the go at the moment these are rough sketches just to get the material out there so no need to be bashing the mixing skills just yet :).....

    This one is called Enzyme

    http://www.gigsmartireland.com/forum/download/file.php?id=47

Doc J has this and is working on real drums , so anyone wanna do vocals (Asians from the Phillipines welcome;) ), keys / lead guitar parts shout now.

The next track is called Head down

    http://www.gigsmartireland.com/forum/download/file.php?id=52

Doc is doing Drums and Bass ....Ive asked a poster who replied via PM to do vox....if anyone has any suggestions or contributions Id gladly hear 'em

As the parts come together I'll post the mixes in case we need backing vocals or a bazooka solo :P ... ya never know.

    Thanks
    Trev

Jagged - If you could possibly concentrate on the first one , as I have asked another poster to work on the Head Down track...if inspiration doesnt strike no panic there will be more tunes to follow

Hey Tony - Your very generous ;).Im working on another tune this evening that you might be intersted in doing Drums for . Doc will have his hands full for a bit ..with teh two above.
This seems to be working out well loads of folks actually working , mailing stuff etc pretty cool!

enzyme sounds nice...do we have a sort of timeframe for this? and how do we record the voice?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,840 ✭✭✭Trev M

Hey Jagged - I dont have any specific time frame in mind as long as I know folks are working away makin a bit of progress.Previously its been a bit of pain in the balls when Ive been waiting and waiting for stuff and it just never happens meanwhile I was kinda turning people away who may otherwise have contributed. Its up to yourself how long it takes really as long as I know you are actually into getting something down...as I said its not a huge committment required just a bit of follow through.

How will we record it? Well as I said you can record the vocals yourself and then send me / upload a 24 bit wav and I mix it into the session or alternatively I'll do the recording with you at my place....up to you.

Right now my schedule isnt too bad, there are four tracks farmed out, with another one nearly ready to be put to the world for collaboration.

Tony - This is the track I had in mind for you and your big boomy drum sound;)

    http://www.gigsmartireland.com/forum/download/file.php?id=53

Also Im chatting with Rob Crosbie, think you know him? I recorded Al (Ex Stone Ocean)on drums for him on a track called You made a Mistake ages ago ... anyway the track never got completed , it was a great tune so myself and Rob will be doing a rewrite if you were into recording the drums for it? Let me know how your fixed.

    All the best
    Trev
