I was told that the whole documents and settings folder is cached on startup to make it faster to load files in it and that having loads of files in My Documents will make it take longer to start up the computer. does anyone know if that's true?

On a local profile, I don't see what the advantage of this would be. Maybe it is the case; really not sure.

On roaming profiles, it is advised not to save files to the desktop to counteract slow logins, however. In this case, the My Documents folder is usually using folder redirection so there's no caching.
