Hi guys, long time no see....

This weekend i shot my first "asian" wedding (In edinburgh;)).
It was a Muslim wedding in the Bengali tradition, it was a hell of an experience and extremely different to what im used to with Irish/Scots weddings.

I wanted to show you this picture because i cant help fall in love with it despite it's technical deficiancies.
It was taken on the day before the wedding, were the bride's family have a bit of a do for her, and she gets the Henna Tatoo's done on her arms.

I under-exposed horribly though, which meant i have had to sacrifice a LOT of sharpness to combat the noise.

DOes anyone have any ideas on how to make it better?

I can't help you out on how to make it better, mostly because i reckon it's a great shot as is.

usually these kind of weddings go on for 3 days and it means you can take a gazillion pictures too.

I like the shot but it could do with being brightened a tad to bring up the detail in the face but leave the background as it is. :D

Yep, took nearly 1800 pictures, not including the stuff i deleted on the spot.....
I was only there for 2 days. :D

Unfortunately as i said, for whatever reason my flash didnt fire, so i doubt this will stand up to much more brightening even for the screen.

Doesn't matter that the flash didn't go off as the shot is in my opinion a better shot without flash.

hmmm, i know what you mean.

I just think the loss of sharpness/detail due to the noise reduction is gonna cause bother if i try and use it for anything other than screen.

Maybe not, ill play around with it once im done with the rest.

It is a lovely lovely shot. I shot a Pakistani wedding last weekend too. They had the same black background with fairy lights. Aren't the girls amazing though, the bride at mine was absolutely stunning, fantastic eyes.

Did you try noise ninja, I hear it is very good. Also if you use a glamour filter you will get more of a magazine style finish but the picture is softened that much that the noise is highly reduced.

Yeah the girls were amazing, the colours and clothes they wore were fantastic.
The whole thing was complete chaos though, but it think that added to the excitement of the occasion to an extent.:D

I'll give the glamour filter a go, cheers

She was nervous as hell dude, there was one point where she just seemed to lose all sense of movement.
I think the week that leads up to these things is pretty mental for the bride because there is so much focus on her at all the different ceremonial things, it must be fairly tiring.

They are so different to our weddings. I was amazed. The hotel guys said it was their easiest wedding ever as nobody drank;)

It was quite cool, both were Pakistani, bride from Dublin, groom from Glasgow, she was wearing similar to your bride but in a paler colour but the groom wore a kilt;)

The glamour thing is on paint shop pro. If you don't have it you can mail me the shot and I'll add it for you. I often use it as a last resort for a pic I love as it is highly processed.

No they finish much earlier too! :D

Do you know if there is a Photoshop equivelant?

All the brides brothers wore Kilts on the actual day of the wedding, but the groom was English so we couldnt be having him in a kilt! ;)

This one had a little afters too though. All her friends were in saris, the Irish ones had learmt a traditional Pakistani dance and the Scottish ones did a ceili. I got all the prep pics too which was cool, advantages of being a girl:p:p:p

I think there is a similar one. I dont have photoshop on this laptop I'll have a peek upstairs and see.

Dont mind at all, i gave the pictures to the wedding company i was working for unproccessed, so these are all mines to do as i wish with! (they dont actually know that the best shots are being hand delivered to the family in order to sell copies....;))

I like what you've done with her face mike, but im finding the background a little distracting now.

All I did was play with levels but keeping in mind the original image was very low res anyway. I also did some retouching of her face and gave here eyes a quick bump. Give it a go!!

Yeah I think the image is fine might need a bit of brightening but not the whole image around her face

sorry is this crap but here is my version

    which was
Dodge tool on the midtones on her face
burn tool on the curtain to her right to tone down the brightness (actually over did it and had to try to get some of it back in colour balance
    then vignette
    sharpen
