Remember a few weeks back Gunner were running a sale on Star AEGs ? Some excellent prices.....

Unfortunately, it seems as if it wasn't actually Star kit at all.....

And if you have a look at Gunner's site, all the Star kit is now branded as Ares.

    Interesting.....

IMO - It's still STAR stuff, just sold under a different name, which is why STAR have got the lawyers out. It's to do with STAR contracting Ares to build a number of guns for them e.g the Ares sniper's (Cheytech etc) - It's my suspicion because they use the same gas system as the Star guns. I assume Ares have sold some of these by themselves at a lower price e.g to Gunner - And STAR are going mad :)

Ares made that new sniper on Gunner, and from what I read, it was a company setup by STAR to get around some copyright issues?

I can tell you that the FNC I got is indeed a STAR. It's identicle in every way to the other ones I've seen reviewed. Same stamped steel and machined alluminium build and the STAR Polycarbide mechbox.

If it turned out to be a clone of STAR I couldn't see how they'd be making a penny on it at that price. My assumption was that gunner was clearing out older stock for STAR.

*Edit* It's starting to look like Ares is a factory STAR contracted to make their AEG's and Gunner did a deal with them to produce more on the side and cut out the middle man. This isn't confirmed info just the rumor that's floating around. If true they are indeed STAR AEG's but not officially sanctioned units from the parent company. If they were clones of STAR products I see no reason for them to just come out and say so, I reckon the rumor is true.

If that is the case then you may well also find that STAR haven't a leg to stand on.

Unless I'm mistaken, there was recently a trade law passed which states that if a third party makes components for a larger company - then they have the right to place that company's logo on the goods before sale. What they can't do, is supply it in the same packaging.

Now, I only know of this because it happens with cheaper Honda parts such as oil filters etc... You buy a filter from an aftermarket supplier such as say, hi-flo, and when you take it out of the hi-flo box, you find a Honda labeled part.

Reason - hi-flo, make filters for honda in some parts of the world, hence they're allowed put the honda logo on part they themselves sell provided that it is in fact the same part. They have to use their own packaging though.

    Same principle may apply here.
