red colour on my screen

I am worried something serious is going in my monitor.. when i leave my computer and it goes blank (as it should) but when I press enter to get back to what I was doing.. there is a red tinge at the bottom of the screen which fades after a while. Does anyone know what is the cause of this and is it serious?? thanks

what type of screen do you have , is it an lcd or a crt , have you tried disabling the power management on the system to see if the same problem occurs ?
