I'd say Berlin, but then I'm biased seeing as I leve here!! :D

Seriously, the nightlife is varied and more liberal, there's plenty to see and it goes non stop over a weekend (includes the metro).

That said, Munich is closer to better natural scenery with the Alps...

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Not too worried about the scenery, I was in Switzerland for a week during the summer and saw some unbelievable scenery over the alps....

Is Berlin cheaper or more expensive than munich to visit would ya say?

Defeinitely cheaper. Average price for a large beer (.5 litre) here is about €3 - €3.50. Day ticket for the metro is 6€ (covers you until 3am following morning, also on buses and some suburban trains) Shopping varies from same as Dublin to considerably cheaper.

If you leave it until 24th November, you'll catch the Christmas Markets (either city)

The main market in Munich is starting on the 28th Nov this year.

Berlin by a street...muc much more to do, more varied, more interesting and very definitely cheaper. Definitely the best weekend option.

What are the Christmas markets, I have visions of a few stalls and some stuff on the side of the street... Are these good enough to delay by a couple of weeks?

Actually it makes no difference. Flights for those dates more than double in price so i'll be going earlier as planned!

    Yep, a million times Berlin!
I loved Munich too but far more on offer in Berlin and shops/centres are open on a Sunday, unlike Munich as far as I recall.

Munich is boring. Only thing going for it is the road to Salzburg and Bavarian wimmens :D

Was in both cities this summer, one after the other. Both were great craic, but as others have said, if you're going for a weekend buzz then it'd have to be Berlin.

True. I presume you've all seen 28 Days Later ??, well thats Munich on a Saturday night. Nothing going on, nada, zipo, niente.

We did find some "night clubs" but they were shite compared to Irish standards.

Most definitely Berlin, i wish I still lived there, and I will, soon...
Very cheap city to do everything, publice transport is unreal, loads to see and do, if its for a weekend you can get the Welcome ticket which will cover you for 48 hours and give you money off loads of touristy stuff

I feel I have to stick up for Munich a bit!
For any footie fan a visit to the 1972 olympic stadium is fantastic, amazeing structure to see.
The city centre has a nice feel to it aswell. The marienplatz area feels akin to a large scale Kilkenny city centre with a very homely feel and some excellent cafes and shops in the area.
Also the Airport and U-Bahn system are first class.
