Buying Playstation 3 as a birthday present for boyfriend.
Haven't a clue about playstations
Where is the best place to buy, deals etc. What do I need to buy, e.g. does playstation come with all leads and anything else it needs to setup.

If he has a High Def TV he will need a HDMI cable

Buy the bloody cheapest one you can, as they all do the same thing. Do NOT listen to the sales guy telling you that the €150 cable will be better, it won't. I recommend Aldi/Lidl/Tesco, cables for €5 when i was buying


as for where to get bundles, sorry. Been so long since I got mine that I do not have a clue.

Suggest that you shop around between Game, XtraGame, Smiths etc and see for yourself (unless someone here has a good spot)

Game/gamestop/smiths all have good deals, about 400euro for 80GB PS3 + a game.

Xtravision sometimes go one better with Remote for watchin blurays etc.

What games is he into? The new Pro Evolution soccer game is out this friday... or if he likes bond movies maybe he's into Metal Gear Solid 4 which is a class game! Get something cheap like Drakes Fortune as well, great game and c.€30.

As for games i'd recommend the ones I made in Bold above...

If he has mates who come over sometimes to play footy on the Ps2 or he likes to show off to you by hammering you 7-0 then an extra Dualshock controller is recommend.

So i'd recommend 80GB PS3 with Call of Duty 4 €450 + Drakes fortune.

80GB PS3 Pro Evolution 2009/ Fifa '09 + Extra Controller, which is prob around same price in HMV. Plus with HMV you can use Student card for 10%, dont think it applys to the console but works for games...

In fairness any game in the last 5 will do

But definatly get metal gear solid 4 and call of duty 4 (war games) or FIFA 09 and pro evolution soccer.

Make sure you don't get him little big planet, unless you want to lose him to the creation mode.

If you don't know what games he likes, you can put some money into his Playstation Network [PSN] account [when he gets the PS3 and sets up an account]

There are MANY games that can be downloaded over the internet and range from €2.99 up to about €30.

Warhawk
Grand Tourismo 5 Prologue
Pixel Junk Monsters [BRILLIANT game]
Wipeout
Old PS1 games

and many more.

His 47" Brand HD Plasma stoped working after 1 week. I thought I would die I laughed so much

I got a ps3 80gb in zaavi (virgin) with a game for 400 e - i got tiger woods golf. I would defo recommend getting a 2nd controller if possible, and HDMI cable if necessary. If you intend buying an extra game for him, check the second hand setion. There are bargains galore... I even got GTA4 for 40euro in Game, was very pleased with myself...
