Does anybody know what's going on here?

There's some serious craneage going on here and holes adequate for epic pylons to support a fly over.

    Anybody any info?

Partial freeflow M50/M1 junction, still lights for N(M)32 movements I believe.

That seems silly to me, the amount of traffic going from the n32 to the m1 is minimal.
There are so many other projects that this money could be better spent on.

the amount of traffic going from the n32 to the m1 is minimal.

No great amount is being spent to facilitate N32 traffic, the benefit is for M50 -> M1N traffic and M50 -> M50 traffic towards the port tunnel.

How does a free flow lane from the n32 to the m1 ease flow on the m50?

They aren't building freeflow lanes from the N32!

It doesn't, hence there isn't one.

Haha, I was looking at the picture the wrong way around.

    Looks great.

I heard that since the Port Tunnell opened the M1/M50 junction is now the busiest junction in the country, overtaking the N7/Red Cow junction, can anyone confirm this?

the M1 between the M50 and the airport is the busiest stretch of road in all of Ireland I believe:

I'd say it is topped by the foreshore section of the M2. 5 lanes in each direction, and working a treat.

You would think it would, but the highest figure when I saw the quote I looked and all I could find for the M2 was 98000/day, while the M1 was 110000.

Why are you surprised? Dublin is twice the size of Belfast, it stands to reason it has busier roads.

Dublin is twice the size of Belfast, it stands to reason it has busier roads.

The M2 carries the bulk of northbound traffic from Belfast, the Dublin M1 is paralleled by the N2 (soon to be M2) and N3 (soon to link to M3) on the northside, so it is not only a question of population.

Fair point, but I'd still just assume its busier than any Belfast Mway.

By the way, this thread should really be called 'M50/M1 Junction Construction'. The upgrade doesn't touch the N32.

anyone know the full schedule (not the final completion date) for this scheme? When will various stages / legs of the build be complete?

Will there been any opening of the extra lanes on approach to this junction from the M50 toll side? even if the hard shoulder was brought back into play here it'd help as there can be some fairly big snarl ups on approach to the existing free-flow because of cars trying to weave in the current narrow 2 lanes. the mainline just looks so good and advanced between Ballymun and this area that it'd be a shame not to use it soon :)
