I was just wondering firstly if there is any issues to performance, ride etc with getting 17" or 18" alloys for the Golf.
If you have a 1.4 golf (like many of them are) you will notice that your performance will be affected, especially acceleration etc, and your speedo may be slightly off too if your changing the overall circumference of the wheel.

If you don't mind taking a performance hit then you could go for them, as they do look well.

I am thinking of getting the below 18" RS6 alloys.
They look nice, and I would suggest sticking to VAG wheels, but I'd probably go for

    the Eos wheels:

    or the GTI wheels: vwgtinew.jpg

Also can you just fit alloys to the car yourself like you would a spare wheel, or do you need to get them fitted by a garage, to check your tracking etc afterwards?

Yup you can fit them yourself, thats what I've always done, as long as the alloys are balanced with tyres when you get them they should be fine.

Although for peace of mind it would be worth it to get the tracking checked if you have any doubts.

Heres a site with a good few VAG wheels: http://www.volkswagenspares.com/page.php?page=New+Alloys

I like the new RS4 wheels myself.

    off topic,
I took a look at the VW spares site and they have a breakers section

Checkout the sticker on the rear of this poor MK V Golf

thats a stupid sticker to put on a fast car never mind a slow one!!

Rs6 (are vag wheels) but in my opinion the are played out, over done and look crap - sorry only my opinion.

Dont go putting 18" replica wheels on your car,the are heavy and can be made poorly i.e very soft (heavy and soft at the time!)

If you are hell bent on changing wheels go for oem wheels from higher spec golf such as GTI or R32,the will be made to proper standards and be lighter.

SLR Mercedes wheels look cool on MK5 Golfs! Autoalloys should have them on the site!

It's a TDi with a Upsolute remap, plenty of torque and 140bhp. I wouldn't imagine that this will be affected too much by the larger wheels, or will it?

Has anyone had any experience ordering from Rochford Tyres?

I'm also thinking of these 17" TSW Pace wheels, are TSW wheels any good?

heavy reps are still heavy no matter what engine,i had reps on my last TDI golf and i had to regularly top up the power steering fluid, never had to that before or since on any car.you can get good reps but the thing is its a lottery and you don't know what you have got until you have fitted them and used them.

I was looking at the Eos wheels on this website, 921 euro including tires and delivery to Ireland.

However when I rang to enquire about them, they said that they are not genuine VW wheels, they are good quality copies.

Has anybody bought wheels from Volks-Apart before, are they any good?

Is 921 euro a bit steep for copies?

    18" mk2 alloys? 18" alloys would look crap on a mk2,besides the fact the wouldn't fit a mk5 golf :D
