Gardai Escape Injury After Being Fired Upon

    Two Gardai in Cork who were fired upon this morning escaped injury. The shooting occured in a halting site. There was a post on it here . . . but I think it deserves its own thread.

    I guess the person who fired on the Garda un-marked patrol may not have recognised that it was a Garda patrol they were firing on!
    Two gardaí escaped injury when they were fired at during a routine patrol at a travellers’ halting site in Cork city overnight.

    Gardaí said the officers, who were in an unmarked patrol car, were followed into the area off the Carrigrohane Road shortly after midnight by a stolen VW Golf.

    A gunman, believed to have been armed with a shotgun, opened fire from the back of the car over the heads of the two gardaí as they began a foot patrol.

    No arrests have been made.

    The VW Golf was found abandoned nearby a short while later and the halting site remains sealed off for forensic checks.
