A mate of mine used to have a 1.8 sr (i think) cracker of a car but did it rust, always remember thinking it was much nicer inside and out than the celica of that time

Thats an unusual car to have such a keen an interest in. Mind if I ask why? Not a car snob question, I'm always curious why people choose the classics they choose.

Those liftback's are a real nice car... BIL used to have one.. Good choice for a classic if a nice example could be found..

i am looking for a friend of mine. he is not so hot on the ol computers..... i think his dad used to have them and he wants one because of that i think.

i cant find them anywhere . i would have figured there would be loads of even junkers but there is nothing.

well keep the ideas coming .

But its definately the saloon shape he is looking for unless a hatch back at the right condition/ price shows up

Why not? Everyone has their own tastes. I myself prefer old everyday cars from the 1980's, especially Japanese cars and the stuff that Austin-Rover made during that period. I guess it's just a nostalgic trip down memory lane of when I was a young lad back in the early 90's.

The likes of classic Ferrari's / Porsche's / etc. don't interest me whatsoever.

Funny, I was watching 'The Van' the other night and their was a scene where the van hits this Corolla:

    335.jpg

Back on topic, you may need to go to England to find one. I haven't seen an original Irish one here in 10 years I'd say.

Have to agree with max damage above .
Some of us just have a love for an auld Corolla . It doesnt have to be Ferrari ,Alfa ,Merc etc.etc. to get our heart racing .Each to their own .

In reply to you there Martron . Ke70 DX's command good money these days . Some may laugh but they are very popular amongst Toyota fans . They are getting thin to the ground alright but i know of 4 or 5 lads that bought nice examples in the last 2 years . Rust is the problem as always but even a complete driving car that needs work could make 2500euro . An absolute minter could be 5k+ .
Unless you find an auld farmer that has one laid up and doesnt know what tis worth you will pay big enough money for one .
The one below was sold out of the uk while back and is now in Donegal .Went for around 2500stg . Beautiful original example though .
    zz25022008470.jpg

The scrappage scheme here saw the end of some nice old irish reg DX's . What a shame . An odd one pops up in the uk ,but if it hits ebay the price will rocket and more often than not be sold over to here .

I may know of a couple around the place for sale .I will make enquiries and pm you ok . What condition is he after .Does he want a project or a minter and what kinda money has he to spend .

    Hope this helps :)

yeah pm me. i was talkin to the guy in england that sold that silver one .

he is not looking for a project. but i suppose it does not have to be perfect!!!
PM he is pretty eager for i suppose anything would be worth a look

Id have to agree that it will be difficult to find an original Irish reg example. Having said that I would have said the same about Corolla K20's and K30's a few years ago...however I have seen several original Irish reg K20/K30's at classic shows in recent times ...so there is hope for your friend!

Another option would be to source one in Australia or New Zealand. I saw a lot of old Toyotas in everyday use in both countries when I lived there in 2004. (And I have seen quite a few Oz/NZ imported classics for sale in Ireland in recent times too).

Oh...another place often overlooked for rust free RHD classics is ... Malta!;)

Just depends how deep your friend's pockets are really! ;)

There is still plenty of them in America too, although they look terrible with the 5mph safety bumpers.

I was thinking this too - it shouldn't cost too much more than importing from Japan (should it?) and one would assume there's less chance of things getting lost in translation....

Yeah, my brother saw a very good condition Hillman Hunter in Gozo - must post pics in the other thread.

from what i can understand is that the austrailian spec has square head lights and he wants the irish spec. it for more sentimental value i think as his father had a couple of them. so i dont think the jap import or even the aussie import is a starter...... thanks though

    Hey Martron ,
did a bit of searching for ya but dont know of any for sale at the minute . There was a brown 1980 irish reg 4dr for sale for a long while but it sold recently .it needed tidying but was compete . As said in previous post .There is a bit coming in from Australia and that .A few ke35's and a good few kp rwd starlets coming over .
Generally in better condition body wise than irish stuff .
Also not true to say ALL aussie ke70's have square lights . Tis like here and the uk .The early models ,1980 and that ,have the nice headlights and grille .Then they changed to the flat fronted square lamps and larger side lights and near the end the had the less attractive slanted front .

Much the same as the KP60 starlet so,the early ones up to around 1980 had the nice bug eye headlights, and the later(KP61?)had the not so nice flat front look.

No...but if he reads the relevant article inside he will see that the owner of the KE20 is a member of www.toyotaenthusiasts.com which would be a good place to search fr a DX!:)

There was alos a UK-reg DX for sale in the IVS classified section in the last issue (or the issue before that?). IIRC, it was brown in colour.

There is a lso a guy in Donegal who specialise in sourcing older Toyotas from the UK/NI/Aus/NZ etc. He often advertises in IVS magazine.

Ah ha...this is the DX which was advertised in IVS mag recently!...
(If I was buying it, I would put it away for a year and pay vintage VRT and road tax from 2011 onwards;)

A bit out of left field, but it might be worth keeping a eye on the Pakistani market. There seem to be plenty of them, and they're all right-hand drive:
