I wouldn't leave it. You have a very legitimate query. Have it clarified.

I'd query it... as long as your nice about it, it won't do any harm. Drop them an email.

Seems cut and dry to me.

Prizes go from overall winner, to gross, to classes.

    I wouldn't let it go.

    In my home club it goes;
    1st nett
    2nd nett
    Gross
    3rd nett.

Different in different clubs i suppose. BTW, a 'major'?

    "Dear competition comittee,

Which one of you's pr*cks done me outta me prize...?

    Sincerely,

    ShriekingSheet"

Perfect, although i'd maybe use your real name in the proper letter. They won't know who Shrieking sheet is!

An event that carries points for Golfer of the Year. Medals, Captain's Prize, Presidents Prize and maybe 1 or 2 others.

sheet I would ask them first what's the format for which prizes are allocated when you get the answer then make a decision whether or not to pursue it

same thing happened me a couple of weeks back in a monthly medal. I think in my club the Class 1 prize comes before gross prize, so I didn't think to query it. I was disappointed though, I would have liked to just once have had the honour of winning the gross prize.

It could be a genuine mistake. God knows how many scorecards the guy/gal has to process over the course of the weekend. Best to query it in a friendly manner.

I wouldnt do anything at this stage. Its too late.

Since it was important to you, understand its galling to see it work the way you wanted it to for someone else, but not for you. And while I understand letting it slide at the time, its unfortunate, but just looks a bit desperate to be going back this long after the event.

The cards dont lie though, whatever the winners list stated and the loot they collected - you still won your gross prize. Well done. Nice achievement.:D

In a recent major in our club, I had 39 points. A junior, who was ineligible to win, had 41 points and another guy had 39 points, beating me on the back 9 for the overall prize.

Obviously cheated..The amount of snakey cheating going on with Juniors is sick..And they get away with it too..E.G..somehow they always have great scores in junior competitions and get cut but in adults comps they do bad..

What a load of rubbish I know plenty of juniors who never cheat and still woin competitions playing off single figure or low teen handicaps

    That's a bit harsh.

Rubbish. Some juniors play 7 days a week during the summer. They are always improving, and their handicaps are always coming down. Just cos someone has a good score doesn't mean they're cheating.

Talk about tarnishing everyone with the one brush...

It's attitudes like this that allow rules like juniors can't play at w/ends and juniors can't win adult competitions to pop up in clubs...

Erm, I dunno what that Junior comment was about? Read the OP again. The Junior involvement has nothing to do with my issue.

Anyway back on topic, I got a swift response from the comp sec. He says yes, it looks likely a mistake was made. He put it down to it being the only s'ford major comp of the year and s'ford doesn't usually have a gross in our club - except for this one competition.

He offered to rectify any error but I sent him a mail back saying to leave everything as is and that his mail was acknowledgment enough.

@Sanwich, the reason I left it a while was that I had the semi final of the scrtatch matchplay with the guy who was given the gross the next day and I didn't want to get in any kind of debate and distract myself from the match. I was beaten and then it would have looked a bit like sour grapes...

Ordinarily, i probably would have let it go but the gross in the President's Prize is a pretty good thing to win. And I finished birdie, birdie, birdie, par to win it so it was a bit special.

    Happy with the outcome.

Very true, it's well known, they all cheat,...but wait.....

Total bs tbh, I have no idea where you are getting this wide sweeping statement from.

    Generalise much?

People do have off days you know? Especially 'people' whose swings are constantly changing as they grow, practice and strive to improve.

I think that's bull**** to be honest. Always scored well in adult comps myself as a junior. It normally takes juniors a few competitions to settle in, but once they do my experience is that they more than hold their own.
