I'm thinking of hitting the road again in the form of a two piece playing 'Alternative' Material.

What can one expect to get paid in either a Dublin or Down the Country gig, taking it the show will be of reasonably good standard music wise?

Thanks for your observation. However that doesn't answer my question?

You need to give more details.

Are you expecting to be booked by the venue for these gigs and be paid a set fee?
Are you going to promote it yourself, which will cost money?
And valid (if smart arse-y) point by Judas, if you're not being paid a set amount, you'll get money from the takings of how many people attended, possibly minus the cost of the room.

Depends on type of music too. "alternative" covers an awful lot these days.

It's just a Pub 2 piece, I just want to know what the average 2 piece gets these days?

Hey dude. I know what your talking about. There was nothing at all complicated about your question! So here is the simple answer you are looking for.. As a PUB 2piece band, i used to get anywhere from 180-240 in the likes of Sligo and Donegal, i got 200dollars for myself in NY for a 1hour gig.. In Dublin expect between 200-250 in most places.. Am looking to play in dublin also. not sure what the rate is, but i would say to stay away from anywhere that doesnt pay a fixed rate until you get established as a good band.. What kind of stuff you do? Wanna make it a 3piece??

Thanks- that's pretty low. I wonder would that be the average for 'down the country' ...?

Thanks for your kind offer, but 2 is already one too many!

ive a couple of mates who do trad and they usually get €200/300 in dublin depending on the venue.

It varies a lot and there are definite leagues between which it can hard to move. Some soloists are gigging in Dublin centre midweek for as little as €80, some wouldn't bother going out unless they got €300+ no matter when it is. If you're an €80 guy you'll have a tendency to get stuck with the €80 jobs. Duos usually don't get twice the soloists rate.

The "alternative material" you say you'll be playing sounds like the kind of stuff that I might personally like to try but not the kind of stuff that will pay the most. That said, get yourself a quirky angle that clicks nicely in peoples imaginations and you'll get the bookings eg "The Van Marley Twins, all your favourite van Morrison songs played in the style of Bob Marley." :D:D:D
