Any ideas what could cause a spike in RAM usage??

Have 4GB of RAM on Vista x64.

Just there my system slowed up big time, and my system monitor was reading that I had only 64MB of RAM not being utilised?? WTF??

All I was running was Firefox, 7z and Messenger...that kinda malarky...

    It's not a regular occurrence...any thoughts??

Top of the list for memory hoggers would be Java apps since they allocate large amounts of memory and may not release it again even when the app is closed.

Check your JVM version and the Firefox online help :

you should be able to see what is using memory in task manager under the processes tab , if not click on the show processes from all users button there
