    Hey guys,
Just looking for some advice. I'm hoping to start doing some home recordings and am looking for a reasonably priced mic, to mic up a fender blues deluxe amplifier, and possibly some acoustic stuff. As the title suggests, i've been looking at the shure sm57, but this would be at the top of my budget at the mo, so have been looking for alternatives. I came across this on ebay, JTS PDM-57, is it any use? Or do you have any recommendations?
    Cheers
    Alan.

If the 57 is still within your budget go for it! If you take good care of it (and they are bullet/drummer proof) you'll probably still be using it no matter other stuff you add or chuck away.

It isn't an industry standard for nothing.

Wouldn't buy a 57 clone on e-bay. Wouldn't buy the 'real deal' on e-bay either, so many knock offs going round. Others will disagree but it's hard to get a bad sound from a good amp with just about any mic. I use a cheap sennheiser or a cheap audio technica, generic dynamics.

I've heard that too, but never saw anything bootlegged. Has anyone here?

Personally? No. Seen pics in other forums though. Unscrew the grille and they're stuffed with Chinese newspapers.

i got stung with a knock of sm58 - what a piece of crap .

you better of getting a 57 then a copy - although the audix i5 is also a good mic.

A 57 is less than €100 for a mic that comfortably sits in the greatest studios in the world. Wash dishes in the local cafe for a few hours and get the extra money. You'll never need to replace. ;)

Why can't I be as concise as that?

Good choice. Sennheiser dynamics are incredibly good, and incredibly cheap. I dunno why no one's copped on to that yet...

Another good alternitave(and some would call it superior alternitive) is the Audix i5, have one myself and im happy with it. Dunno would i call it better than an sm57 though.

    I find that video odd.

The AC30 is a 2 x 12 amp, yet they've both mics placed in the centre of the amp i.e. what looks like between the speakers?

Also it appears yer man's vocal mic stays open all the time plus there's some funny Automatic Gain Control stuff going on, never mind the difference in volumes.

I think it's a great idea but I wouldn't be basing my buying decisions on such like.

and wouldn't you think he'd buy a tuner if he knew he was goin' on the telly ...
