There seems to be a widely held view among male motorists that female motorists are less competent. I'm curious to find out do motorists consider female cyclists to be less competent also? Or is it possible that the opposite is true?

tbh I've no idea of the relative competencies of the genders but i vaguely remember reading somewhere that trucks killed more female cyclists than males....think the arguemnt was that male cyclist were more aggressive so didn't find themselves in truck blind spots as often or something like that. very open to correction on that

It was a UK study, but the reason given why women were meeting accidents was that they were more law-abiding about traffic lights and rode too close to the kerb whereas guys who tended to assert their roadspace more an who broke traffic lights were less likely to get cut up in the blind spot of turning trucks.

As against that, wearing a blond girl's wig was found to be more effective than a helmet as drivers gave more space to the 'blond'.

In Dublin, I see no shortage of females breaking the lights. Main difference compared to blokes I find is that they mostly have poor quality bikes and ride unsuitable gears. If anything, in London, the girls seem to have the coolest bikes.

I've seen quite a lot of woman cycling a mixture of reasonably good bikes, 'old' style and quite stylish bikes. Although I'm probably to busy shuddering to notice what bikes are under those with high-vis or helmets on. Those woman aren't of interest even if they are on a bike. :o:p
