that a favourite tv show has been cancelled.

Last night had my popcorn and Dr.Pepper at the ready, all set for another week of James Woods and Shark until some absolutle joke of a programme was in its place. Odd, I thought to myself and while I was dissapointed; I assumed next week Shark would be making its return to the schedule.

Anyway I said I'd check it up on Wikipedia to see how many shows we were behind, and then I read it
Shark is an American legal drama that originally ran on CBS from September 21, 2006 to May 20, 2008.

I can't believe how devestated I was and still am. Shocking stuff. I then found out that while the ratings were good, it wasn't attracting the 18-49 year old demographic...Braindead goons. Too focused on some of the absolute ****e that is shown and then the best legal drama to hit the air is cancelled.

    Distraught.

I cry into my pillow and curse TV executives the world over. The sheer amount of shows that I love that never got a chance is just plain unfair.

I find something else to watch.

It is a crying shame though, that so many very good shows got canceled before being given a chance (Invasion, Surface, Drive, Smith, Firefly, Journeyman, Jericho, Day Break, Traveler, to mention but a few) while all that reality crap gets played out over and over again. Even shows that have a few years on them (I'm thinking 4400 here) can get canned without a proper ending, only to get replaced by utter drivel like "In Plain Sight".

but the thing is for me shark was more than just a tv show, it was like a religous experience. there is shows i liked which have been cancelled(the war at home for example) but it didn't mean as much as this did.

This is unfortunately a problem with American TV shows in general - a lot of shows get cancelled prematurely, others get cancelled just as they hit their stride, others even seem to get canned in their prime. Basically the way they evaluate the popularity of a show in the US (the old Nielsen system) is completely broken, as these days people TiVo/DVR stuff to watch later, download from Amazon/iTunes, watch streaming video on Hulu and other sites, etc - none of these are taken into account and all that matters is "live" viewing from Nielsen families that seem to love craptacular reality shows/CSI's 47th spinoff and not much else.... All we can do is move on as Jor El already mentioned - popularity of a show outside the US is most definitely not taken into account either.

Shark was culled before its time... a show that got better as the season went on.

I'll never understand the fickle american viewing public.

yeah definetly. It definetly could have lasted two more seasons at least, maby after that the concept would ware thin and become stale but just the manner in which it ended. So many questions that will never be answered.

Anybody know who the Irish divorced wife is?

You can't prepare yourself for a cancelation!
I remember when Charmed was cancelled, It was the only show to make me sad to be cancelled! I still miss it to this day :(

After 8 seasons, I'm not sure I would consider a show canceled, more "ran its' course" really. Not a lot of shows last that long - 4 to 6 seasons seems like a more average lifespan for the ones that don't get canned abruptly.

It was good, but it wasn't that good. You need to get out more, or find a new fix. Have a look at Heroes or Lost, there's plenty of people in there that treat these like religious experiences, so you won't be alone :pac:

It came up in post 3 :D

As much as I loved Veronica Mars (just happened to see two minutes of it dubbed into French last night :puke:) it had gone quite ropey by series 3.

I'm still sick they killed The Riches though.

As much as I am a firefly fan at least it got a ending (very good one IMO), shows such as shark and Journeyman(still pains me to say it) just get killed with no ending or clousure, Thats what really annoy's me. I've also just been told deadwood doesn't get a proper ending either which is annoying me cause its going to spoil the next 2 and a half season of it.

Deadwood was supposed to be a 4 season show, but it got cancelled after 3. They were planning a movie-style ending to wrap it up, but that got cancelled as well. Which is a damn shame, as it was a fantastic show.

Really ? I enjoyed Season 1, but Season 2 has been a struggle to sustain interest.

In fairness, Journeyman had some kind of closure (rushed and half baked, but I thought it was pretty good - that closing shot was excellent). I guess it helps when the writers know the show is in trouble.

I was a fan of Charmed (and I'm rewatching Season 8 on Living at the weekends) but it was well past its prime by then. The 3 lead actresses looked bored, and it came across on screen.

Daybreak had closure too (yep, I was one of the 7 people who watched that), with a nice little twist that left it open for continuation.

As for Shark, I thought it was excellent... Kind of like House for lawyers. The Waynes World episodes (with 4400's Billy Campbell) were fantastic - at least it went out on a high.

The only show that really killed me when it got cancelled was futurama... and now I wish it had stayed cancelled :(

Well it wasnt continued from the transition of WB to CW so in a way it was although maybe it's the fact the last 3 season's were neglected :(
Although Season 7+8 was a better step up from 5+6

You sound like one of the guys who gave up after season 1 or 2. You don't know what you've missed.

It was more the fanatic aspect of some of the proponents, rather than the show itself, that I was getting at.

No, it got worse. It's gone seriously down hill, and I really don't see a way for it to recover itself to the show it was in season 1. However, I've been watching from the beginning, and I'm not about to stop, if only to find out what the hell it's all about. I also don't believe that even half of the questions will ever be answered. But that's for a different thread/forum.
