You are definitely better off hitting TK, and you can always wear your jacket in the "real world" too

Buy your own gear if you are going to be going regularly, but for the first time taster I'd hire it or go to Aldi. And if you are hiring, hire in the resort rather than lugging all the gear with you when its not even yours! Also cuts down on overweight luggage charges.

Renting isn't that cheap. You'd nearly pick up the full outfit in Aldi or Lidl for the same price. A mate bought hers there and it was a great jacket - she's been using it for three seasons now (and inbetween) with no complaints. When you go skiing you'll realise how sweaty you get. And the thought of being in a 'used' outfit will make you gag!

You don't need anything special for skiing really. You must have a waterproof jacket of somekind already, this is Ireland after all, and hat and gloves. Then you just want some sallopettes, which is the only bit of gear that you'd be unlikely to already have and not really be going to use for other things, and you should be able to find a pair of them cheap enough in a TKMaxx type shop once they get their winter stock in.
