Nursing in Ireland.

I am planning to immigrate to Ireland early next year to work as a nurse and I was wondering if anyone would be so kind as to answer my many questions. :)

(I work as a nurse in Australia, have been doing so for close to 9 years, mainly in the area of physical rehabilitation.)

Are there any rehabilitation hospitals/centers in Ireland, besides the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dublin?

Any thoughts on hospitals in Galway, Cork, Killarney, Limerick?

Anyone been in the same position as me? I'd be interested to hear about people's experiences with registering with An Bord Altranais.

(Please let me know if I've posted this in the wrong forum- I'm new here. :) )

Nurse? Nurse? (voice seems to be echoing hollowly....)

Not a general nurse, so can't tell you, but these might be useful:

Hmm, don't really know huge amount of this but in Ireland I suspect the NRH would be the best place to go if it's pure rehab you're after, there would be some available (usually as part of Stroke units) in other general hospitals around the country but I suspect that might be a shock to the system if you're coming from a pure rehab background.

The NRH recently got CARF accreditation http://www.carf.org , the only place in Ireland with that and one of not very many accredited places in Europe. The building's a bit old but they're about to start work on a brand new hospital adjacent to the current one, it's a nice place to work but I'm not a nurse so if you can get advice from one of them all the better. And best of luck with the move!

Presumably you are a 'General' nurse.

Just to let you know that here are 4 types of nurses in Ireland.

    Registered General Nurse (RGN)
    Registered Mental Health Nurse (RNMH)
    Registered Intellectual Disability Nurse (RNID)
    Registered Sick Childrens' Nurse (RSCN)

    and

    Registered Midwife (RM)

Thanks to JuliusCaesar, ergo, Wishbone Ash for replying, and to those who have sent me private messages- all greatly appreciated. :)

Thanks for all the website links. I've checked them all out, and they're quite useful.

I am a general nurse, with some stroke background- we do get mild to moderate strokes at the rehab centre I work at, plus I used to work on a stroke ward in the acute setting many, many years ago. So that area wouldn't phase me too much.
