currently in first year law in maynooth, finding the adjustment from town and the general atmosphere of maynooth to be bordering on irratating,
i'm a couple of points short of law in ucd and tcd but is it possible to transfer after this year?

If you're short on points - no. All colleges are very strict on the points requirement. If you have the points for another course and you wish to transfer you should contact the college you want to go to. The admissions office, to be exact. Usually you need to have the points, for there to be a spare place, and no other major problems like timetabling caused by your inclusion in the course.

    what about various access programs?

Yes, access programmes would be a possibility. The 'normal' tranfser route though, is dependent on the points and necessary subjects for someone to get in.

Is it possible to transfer from one college to another this year or would you have to take the year out and re apply on the CAO in 2009?

You can transfer mid-year. And you don't have to go through the CAO. Contact the admissions office of the college for more information.

Just for the record, iv seen plenty of people get into WIT (including me :p) for not meeting the points requirement. That includes people leaving from the LC and people transfering from different colleges. Perhaps other colleges are strict, but usually emailing the course leader of the course *might* get you somewhere. :)

You can change colleges whenever - it depends on whether the college you want to go to will take you then, of course.
