'local only' vista problem

Hi all. Was using the internet wirelessly over my medion vista laptop some weeks back when all of a sudden my wireless card 'malfunctioned' and i lost connection.

So after reinstalling that and restarting my laptop the wireless card was up and running again and picked up my linksys router wirelessly. the only trouble is when i went to connect to the internet, it could only connect 'local only' and cannot get internet access. i have tried resetting my router and power cycling my isp modem to sort this problem out but to no avail.

anyone with any experience of this problem?

additionally, my sister has a similar laptop and cannot connect to the internet either despite no problems with her laptop.

go to control panel network and sharin centre and click manage network connections, it will open a new window right click local area connection and select properties go to properties of IPv6 ad IPv4 and make sure both are set to auto obtain ip address and dns

i have the same hardware as you here at the moment :D

all you need to do if you're sure the wep and all other setting are correct is right click the network icon in the system tray (besided the clock) and choose network and sharing

here you should see the name of your network and in brackets ( x network)
if it says public network in the brackets click customize to the right of it and make it private.

one of the few things in vista that annoys me
