picks up the eircom connection the second pc but will not allow connect to internet.

getting message it must be a networking issue

Hmm, I use Eircom broadband here too and have no problems with two machines accessing the wireless router at the same time. If it's not a WEP key problem, then tell me this: Does the laptop work when the first computer is switched off? Also, if you have an ethernet connection on your laptop, connect it to the router directly with a cable and see if that works.

Sometimes, my wireless connection just shuts-off for some reason and I just use a cable.

Other than that, just continue with trial-and-error!

Never ever ever use WEP keys on wireless routers, use WPA2 if possible or WPA (if only available). Do not use show easy guessable words as password. WEP is easily cracked.
Also note Laptop wireless drivers need to have the Same Security Capabilities as the wireless router. i.e if you wireless router have only WPA, even though you laptop can connect with WPA2 then WPA will be your encryption protocol.
I use combination of letters (both Upper & lower case, numbers and Special characters such as !"£$%^&*()@\|?/><., when creating very long passwords and use WPA2, but WPA will do for now. Encryption can be broken with brute-force on WPA which takes time so that why i saying.

    For now
OP. First you need to is check your second Laptop can connect wireless.

First Step use Ethernet on the second laptop to check Network capability is working on your second Laptop.

If working move to the next step.
Second Step: you need to do Believe it or not for a short period is turn off wireless security on the wireless modem. Try to connect and see if you can bring connect and bring up a webpage. Then Turn on Wireless security (WPA2 if you can) back on when finished.

Find out the Max encryption protocol that you wireless routers and Computers can handle.
Do some research on the Web if you Wireless cards (Laptops) can connect with WEP (Not preferred) WPA or WPA2 (Preferred) encryption.
You router: You can find out by logging into it and searching for it on the Wireless security page. Your Router documentation should have information in how to check for that.

After that, check password carefully and check the type of encryption protocol used, you could be using different encryption protocols. You made also need to upload the latest driver for your wireless card.

After that, good luck and good hunting.
