    Folks,
I am just after exchanging my Australian license for an Irish full license to help ease on my Insurance. Just wondering what implications would buying (an automatic) car with a bigger engine size have on the insurance for one buying a car for the first time having to go through Insurance and road tax.

    Thanks

first off the tax and insurance are totaly seprate issues in ireland, but you will need an insurance number to get your road tax.

https://www.motortax.ie tells you all you need to know about road tax.

insurance is based on alot of things. engine size. car size (saloon, hatchback, etc) your sex, where you live, and any other issues they can think of. even try this. ring an insurance co. first thing in the morning and get a quote. ring thrm that same evening with a different name and all other detais the same and you will see the differance.

    so shop around.

people will say a smaller car is the best to start in but when i started driving a 1ltr ford fiesta was costing £300 more to insure than a 1.4 vw vento. so i bought the vento.
